Ability to read at risk, report predicts
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on this are that if their saying literacy skills for adults will increase by 2031. How do they determine we will have a lower literacy level by 2031? There are so many adult learners returning to school such as myself and education is better today they said, you think for sure we would be more educated by 2031. Immigrants will be on the downturn do to immigration laws, border patrol and terrorists . I just saw an immigration officer go to a farm in Pain Court and take away a bunch of people because their Visa’s had expired. Myself I think peoples literacy skills will increase in this Country by 2031 because more people are seeking education do to the economy and the education system is better for kids growing up today.

Don’t disregard dyslexia- it’s all around you.
ReplyDeleteThis article surprised me with the amount of people that have dyslexia. Also some of the famous and very influential people that have dyslexia. Like asper-syndrome people with dyslexia are very intelligent and deserve the right to be educated like the rest of us. We have to accommodate these kids and help them to learn because they have a lot to offer. I think we need to address all people with any kind of disability or handicap. We were all put on this earth for a purpose. We need to work together to help one another. People with dyslexia have a lot to offer as you can see by some of the famous people that have it.

ReplyDeleteThe first thing that caught me by surprise and made me do a double-take was the projected date of the results. 2031? We can't accurately predict the weather next week, let alone the country's literacy rate 21 years from now. The article was from 2008 so that puts it at 23 years from that time. I honestly thought the article was a joke when I first read it.
They say that the number of senior citizens with low literacy skills will double to 6.2 million. I don't see this happening since more and more adults are attending post-secondary education. In 21 years, they will be the senior citizens which doesn't fit their predictions. Reading this article felt like a complete waste of time.

It looks like we're on the same page Kevin. Your comments on the literacy article are logical and suggest that their study isn't very accurate.
