Are there any advantages related to scheduling as a mature student?

2. How can students apply Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences in their own learning? How can teachers and professors benefit? How does it apply to adult learners in particular? Which areas of intelligence can you identify most with and why?

  1. Developing time management strategies can have a positive impact in a person’s daily routine. The most important thing is to avoid procrastination. Complications may arise while performing a task and cause it to take longer than expected. Having a neat and organized work area is also very important since this will reduce the amount of time spent looking for things. Another key to success is to try to limit or avoid interruptions. If a task is estimated to take an hour, it isn't practical to start if only have half an hour is available. Planning the day's activities is very a helpful strategy and can be crucial in avoiding unnecessary travel time.

These tips can be used by students of any age while attending college or university. Procrastinating until the last minute to start a report or essay will make deadlines difficult to achieve. 30 minutes spent looking for paper or pens in a cluttered work area means less time for work. People who are glued to their phones and send 500 text messages a day should turn off them off while doing homework. Regarding scheduling, a mature student may have to schedule classes around family obligations whereas a newly-graduated high school student might have a more open schedule. One advantage that a mature student might have in this area is transportation. Someone right out of high school without their own vehicle would have a difficult time arranging rides to and from class.

  2. 1. The best tips in time management in general for me. Do not to procrastinate. Prioritizing is also something that will help. Organizing all my notes and having a common location in the house just for my school work. A mature student schedule may be more difficult than a newly graduated high school student because a mature student likely has a household to run. Maybe they have children to send off to school. There also is the extracurricular activity their children may have. So you need to have strict study times for yourself. You can utilize these in college by doing things when you are suppose to. Don’t wait until later. Do it right the first time. Set your goals. Stay away from any distractions. Take a break when studying or reading and give your mind time to refresh. I myself would probably set myself up for a reward of some sort when accomplishing a huge assignment. Advantages for a mature student may be the fact that there main focus is school. All the events, parties and activities and time spent on them are not what I would be there for.
    2. Students can apply Gardener’s Theory by concluding what type of intelligence you fall in and excel in that category. Use the tools he has provided for each scenario and maybe even choose your course according to where your intelligence lies. Teachers and professors could use this tool to determine the intelligence in their classroom and focus on teaching to the majority. Another option I suppose is they could adjust their curriculum the easiest way for everyone to learn. It applies to adult learners in the way that you can understand the best way for you to learn. Possibly teach you how to learn and which options are best for you. For myself by doing the survey I am a visual learner. If you show me how to do something find it easy to remember.

  3. Kevin, you made some excellent points and covered all of the important ideas. While a lot of the school events would be for entertainment purposes, some of them might be helpful towards your courses. They would also help create a network around campus and give you some friendly resources to call on when needed. Your first sentence regarding Gardner's Theory gives a very important strategy. It will be up to us students to apply Gardner's Theory into our study habits for maximum efficiency.

  4. Disadvantages and Advantages of being an Adult Student

When I had first started school I had felt like I might have quite a few disadvantages being an adult student. First of all I am forty years old and have been out of school for over20 years. I was feeling quite overwhelmed with the thought of coming back. I was feeling like I was going to be a distraction to the class and the teacher because I was thinking I was constantly going to have my hand up asking questions or asking her to repeat herself. I was also having a hard time thinking how was I going to fit everything else I had going on in my life into this new routine. Not only am I a new student, I am still a mother of 3 teenaged kids, a wife, a daughter and a friend. I will still have a household to run, the dogs still need to be walked, appointments still have to be dealt with, and at some point I need to fit sleep into all this. I have been trying to put this all into perspective and I have realized that I need to change my ways. I need to prioritize everything that I have going on. There has to be set times for all the activities, especially school. I learned in taking my first quiz last week that when the teacher says you need to study, you really need to study! My mark reflects that statement. Although it was a pass, I know it could have been much better.
I believe that an advantage that I may have in being an adult student could be my life experiences. In 40 years I believe I must have at least a little bit of knowledge in a whole lot of different areas and aspects of life to offer. I am also sure that as time goes I am going to become more and more focused on my future schooling. I am certain that I will look back at this time when I was first getting started and wonder why I had so many fears and hesitations and doubts about going back to school as an adult student when I finally see that I was able to succeed with all the proper tools and guidance.
